Taking Risks and Being Vulnerable

On a Sunday not long ago my husband and I took our boys to a 2-year-old birthday party at a local gym. Laughing, screaming children were running about and the parents were having very short conversations.

I happen to get introduced to someone where I felt a connection and wanted to introduce her to our friend. On the way out the door I invited her to dinner the following night.

I think we were all a bit shocked on how forward I was, including myself. We recently discussed that we would like to always have a Sunday dinner where we would invite different people. We had a wonderful time and I offered to host a charity event for her benefitting 146Love.org. It is an organization that benefits young girls in the prevention of sex trafficking.

While I was organizing the party at home I knew there was a deeper meaning to it all. Something was driving me to gather people together in my home in a warm environment that I created and it was simple. Connection. As women started to file in stories were shared of life and hardships that people have been experiencing. Hugs were shared, food was eaten and money was raised for a worthy cause.

I had a great time planning the food. The theme was wood-fired pizza and champagne punch. Here is my take on feminine pizzas, raspberry ricotta and basil – yummo!

I took a risk and made some new friends.
